Construction Begins on Community Recreation Facility

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is excited to announce 2025 construction on the Community Recreation Facility is set to begin the week of March 24. While initial groundwork took place in 2024, major construction will begin in 2025. Residents can expect to see significant progress throughout the year, including the installation of the shell of the facility by the end of the construction season. 2024 Year End Operating Results Presented to Council for Information
The Town of Stony Plain concluded 2024 with a surplus of $421,086 compared to the budget. This result is not yet audited and could change after the audit process. However, Administration doesn't expect major changes. The audited financial statements will be presented by Metrix Group LLP in April 2025.

Veterans Boulevard Lane & Sidewalk Closure

As part of an ongoing water line project, one northbound lane of Veterans Blvd and the adjacent sidewalk (from 44 Ave to Graybriar Dr) will be closed starting early this week until April 15, 2025.
Expect construction activity in the area, including hydrovac trucks, excavators, and more. Access will be maintained for residents north of the CN rails.

STONY PLAIN, AB: In 2025, the Town of Stony Plain is celebrating 40 years of friendship with its sister town, Shikaoi, Japan! Since 1985, the Shikaoi Exchange Program has fostered cultural connections and lifelong friendships between the two communities. To mark this milestone year, applications are now open for the Host Family, Assistant Language Teacher, and Long Stay Volunteer Programs. The Student Exchange Program is also running in 2025, however applications are now closed.

Councillor Pat Hansard Sworn in as Deputy Mayor
The Deputy Mayor is a member of Council who is appointed by Council to act as Mayor in the absence or incapacity of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor position is appointed to each Councillor in a rotation. At last night’s Council Meeting, Councillor Pat Hansard was sworn in as Deputy Mayor effective until June 30, 2025.
